Happy Blogmas Day 6! Only 19 days to go until the big day! (And only 9 days until Spider-Man, I don't know which one I am looking forward to most...)

For today's blog, I thought I would combine my two favourite loves. Music and Movies. Here is a list of my top 5 Christmas songs that have been used in Christmas Movies!

1. “Christmas Is All Around” from Love Actually.

Described as a “festering turd of a record” sung by ageing rock star Billy Mack (Bill Nighy) over the opening credits of Love Actually is a cover of the 1967 Troggs hit “Love Is All Around,” sprinkled with some Christmas joy! (Not really, just “Christmas” and “snow” replacing certain words).

2. Carol of the Bells - Home Alone.

Does this choice even need an explanation? The way the song starts off being a calming accompanying song to the Church scene, which quickly turns into a manic cacophony of sound playing as Kevin runs home to defend his home. It is an absolutely incredible piece of music that still moves audiences and has them ready for action within an instant. The shift from choir to orchestra is stunning and still gives me chills when I watch it.

3. “White Christmas” from Holiday Inn.

Is it even Christmas if at least one of your Grandparents doesn’t burst out into White Christmas once over Christmas dinner? I don’t think so.

An absolute Christmas classic, and one that makes me quite emotional when listening to it. I’m not sire if it is just because I have been raised to associate Christmas and the best memories with this song, but I think it is one of the best Christmas songs to pair with a movie ever!

4. “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

This may be the grumpiest, funniest Christmas song of all time, with each negative insult (“You’re a three-decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich with arsenic sauce!”) topping the last.

Still, fits the movie and character so incredibly well. And I can’t imagine the Grinch will ever not be associated with this song.

5. Baby It’s Cold Outside - from Elf.

Because the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

* Fun Fact * The duet wasn't in the original script but was tailored to Deschanel's skill set. "I remember Jon Favreau telling me that they were catering it to whoever played the part. One actress they were looking at was good at skateboarding. But I had a cabaret act at the time and I was performing a lot. They knew that I was a singer, so they put that in to be my special thing that he could discover I was good at."

And thank god they did tailor this scene to Deschanel's skill set as this scene is one of my absolute favourites in the whole movie, and perfectly creates that necessary tension between the two characters, which ultimately leads them to this incredible bond the two have.
