Even though cinemas are starting to reopen and life is sort of going back to normal, I thought I would share my top 5 Netflix Original Movies for all of you, who are maybe like me, and kind of like staying at home and watching everything from the comfort of your own bed.

These are some of the best movies I have watched this year that Netflix has produced. Let me know your favourites in the comments below.

1. Moxie

⭐⭐⭐

Moxie, directed by Amy Poehler, tells the story of shy 16-year-old Vivian, who publishes an anonymous zine criticising sexist behaviour and misogyny at her high school after becoming inspired by her mum's feminist roots. This movie is a step in the right direction for women and the feminist movement, it is progress, not perfection. Whilst this film has been critiqued for its attempts at creating a movie for teens, but ultimately creating a movie for teens written by someone in their 40's, I personally think Moxie creates a great stepping stone for future filmmakers to write great feminist stories. This movie deals with the everyday sexist and misogynistic comments that women have to deal with and deals with it from a root level. It allows for these conversations to be had of sexism within schools not being taken seriously enough and misogyny within the younger generation being overlooked, because "boys will be boys". This is definitely one to watch, and one to show your teenagers. The film is not without its flaws, and we as an audience must also understand the white privilege so prevalent in the film, but as a movie, it is speaking about messages we should all be speaking about. I definitely recommend.

2. Malcolm and Marie

⭐⭐⭐

A filmmaker on the brink of Hollywood glory and his girlfriend, whose story made his career, find themselves pushed towards a reckoning as a single tumultuous night decides the fate of their relationship. The casting is gold, Zendaya in particular. What intrigues you to want to keep watching is the acting, the story seems a little mismatched, but there are moments within this film that deserve immense recognition. It is shot beautifully, but there isn't a reason for you to invest anytime into these characters, which makes for an okay watch. Watch for Zendaya and John David Washington's incredible acting performance, and appreciate the elegant single-setting production, but anticipate an average storyline.

3. Extraction

⭐⭐⭐

A black-market mercenary who has nothing to lose is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible. Chris Hemsworth is absolutely incredible within this film, and plays the mercenary role brilliantly. The action is amazing and it really does have you on the edge of your seat, with particular scenes matching some of the best action scenes in film history, especially the shoot out moments. It also has a great one-take (sort-of) scene which steals the show, yet, it is very generic and not very original. This film is nothing you hadn't seen before, but it is fun and filled with great action scenes. Definitely a great popcorn movie to watch.

4. Love and Monsters

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson, along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over the radio with his high school girlfriend, Aimee, who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. This is such a fresh movie. It is filled with the perfect amount of comedy, action, grief and love. It battles with the ideas of compromise and loss, whilst also being at the backdrop of killer giant insects ravishing the world. The cast is amazing, including Dylan O'Brien himself, which is phenomenal casting. This movie isn't groundbreaking, yet, it feels that way. The charming sense a youthful adventure to find love, matched with the dooming apocalypse makes for a great movie that I would urge you to watch. Love and Monsters is one of my favourite Netflix Originals.

5. Enola Holmes

⭐⭐⭐⭐

While searching for her missing mother, intrepid teen Enola Holmes uses her sleuthing skills to outsmart big brother Sherlock and help a runaway lord. An interesting take on the Sherlock Holmes stories, filled with mystery and adventure. Whilst it is a tad long, and could definitely be condensed down into a much shorter adventure, this movie has everything it needs. Great casting, especially Millie Bobby Brown, with an enjoyable and modern plot for all audiences to enjoy, I absolutely recommend watching it. I hope the second movie delves a little deeper into the mystery and detective elements more, but overall, I am excited to see a new adventure.
