Happy First of September everyone!

As summer is coming to an end and the best seasons are just beginning, I thought I would share with you some of my rainy day recommendations. These are perfect for those nights when it’s pouring down with rain outside, you have a warm cup of tea in hand and are wrapped up in endless amounts of blanket.

I have tried to make these non-festive based, however, if you are in the spooky mood already like I am, Hocus Pocus is a great rainy day movie to get you excited for Halloween.

1. The Harry Potter Franchise

There is nothing better to watch on a rainy day than watching a Harry Potter movie, or all 8. They are incredibly comforting, they’re filled with warmth and love and are great transitions for you to start feeling all cosy and ready for the autumn/winter months. It will take you a hefty 18 hours and 39 minutes to watch them all, yet, if you want a great tip on how to watch them all, but still have time to do everything else you want to do, pick a night a week (I usually pick a Sunday) and watch one film every week. If you start on the 5th September, you will have them all watched by the 24th October, and you know what that then means… Halloween!!

2. Titanic

What better thing could you be doing on a rainy day than falling in love with Jack and Rose, and you will have hours to kill whilst you wait for the iceberg to hit so plenty of time to refill that kettle. Whilst this is a romance movie, and most romances are set typically in summer, this is one of those films that are perfect to be watched whilst wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa with a cup of tea in hand.

3. The Notebook

One of my all time favourite films. Similar to Titanic, this movie is the biggest comfort hug of all time. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams star in this romance and it is one that will go down in history. This film will have you crying, falling in love, laughing but most importantly, it will touch your heart and leave a permanent mark on you. This is one to watch curled up in bed, favourite snacks in hand with tissues within grabbing distance.

4. Spirited Away

If you are a fan of animations or Studio Ghibli, this is the perfect movie to watch on a rainy day. The music, the aesthetic and the vibes are perfect for a day when you don't want to leave the house. Not only is the animation beautiful, but so is the story. It is a dazzling and enchanting tale that leaves you fascinated and a little curious, and is great for transitional weather vibes to make you feel a little bit more in the autumnal mood.

5. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Whilst you are sat on the sofa, admiring the rain falling down outside, live vicariously through Ferris and his friends as they have the best day ever after skipping school for the day. This movie is filled with nostalgia, fourth wall breaks and so much fun and mischief, including a flash mob scene which is one of my favourites. This is John Hughes’ (director) love letter to Chicago and the film encapsulates the city so well. There is no need to get up from that sofa, this movie will take you on an adventure from the comfort of your own room.
