As we have finally reached August, I thought it would be a great idea to share with you some of my favourite summer movies and why I love them! If you want to unwind, chill out for a few hours and escape the real world, these are my top picks for the summer season.

What are your summer favourites?

1. Mamma Mia (2008) (and it's prequel/sequel Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again (2018)

2008 classic starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan and a star studded featuring cast is the perfect summer classic for you and all your friends to watch. As Sophie and her family are busy preparing for her wedding, she secretly invites three men, who were her mother's lovers in the past, with the hope that one of them is her father. Not only is it a fun and light-hearted feel good movie, but the songs are incredible and will have you jumping around the room. The prequel/sequel movie Here We Go Again, starring Lily James, whilst not as iconic, is still super fun, features new songs and new cast members, and also stars Cher - can it get more summery than that.

2. Grease (1978)

The ultimate summer movie. While vacationing in Australia, Danny and Sandy indulge in a passionate love affair with each other. They part ways believing they will not see each other again but fate has other plans. Possibly the most iconic movie musical of all time, the songs and the dancing are so fun and energetic that it will have you up on your feet with them. John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John steal the show as the two navigate their way through high school, all set to the most evocative soundtrack to date.

3. The Hangover (2009)

This comedy is one that cannot be missed in summer, it must be watched every single summer. Doug and his three best men go to Las Vegas to celebrate his bachelor party. However, the three best men wake up the next day with a hangover and realise that Doug is missing. From the first drink on the rooftop, the wild goose chase around Vegas and the summer wedding at the end, this movie is the perfect summer movie for you to put on for an outdoor movie night with all of your friends, drinking and reminiscing about the crazy summer nights you have all had. Also, it's an incredibly funny movie.

4. Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Crazy. Rich. Rachel, a professor, dates a man named Nick and looks forward to meeting his family. However, she is shaken up when she learns that Nick belongs to one of the richest families in the country. This is the perfect movie to watch if you are hosting a movie night with all your friends. The costumes and the sets are incredible, the storylines are exciting and interesting and the cast are incredible. Crazy Rich Asians is a film that works all year round, but feels extra special on a summers night.

5. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

Peter Parker, the beloved superhero Spider-Man, faces four destructive elemental monsters while on holiday in Europe. Soon, he receives help from Mysterio, a fellow hero with mysterious origins. The travelling around Europe creates the perfect summer vibe, as Spider-Man visits Italy, Austria, Czech Republic and ends in London with all of his classmates. It reminds you of holidays and school trips you have been on yourself, and whilst the context is not the same (I definitely wasn't saving the world from supervillains on my history trips, they were much more boring than that), the essence feels summery and fun! Definitely a great film to watch with someone who may not be the biggest fan of the typical summer movie, i.e rom-coms.
