Sunday watch with me

A Sunday to me means one thing; staying in bed all day and watching as many movies as possible! This week I managed to watch three films, varying in genre.
Wine Country (A.Poehler) - 2.5 ⭐️

Being a huge Amy Poehler fan, I thought I would give this film a go, and whilst it definitely was not aimed at my age demographic, it was still relatively funny and it had a lot of heart! Going into the film, I didn't have the highest of expectations, however, elements of the film really worked. The female dynamic worked great, the chemistry between the women was impeccable and the story that revolved around Maya Rudolph’s character brought the film a sense of realism and focus that gave the film a new dimension. However, at times it felt forced and the dialogue sometimes reflected that of a middle-aged woman going through an identity crisis and trying to "get down with the kids". I appreciate that within the film industry, women over a certain age are type cast as mothers, or witches (for obvious reasons *rolls eyes*), so it was refreshing to see something that solely revolved around middle-aged women, without focusing so heavily on motherhood. Yet, it was just average, I would recommend women in their late 40's to give this one a go, it definitely is not for a young audience.
Arrietty (H. Yonebayashi) - 3 ⭐️

I have been re-watching the Studio Ghibli movies recently and I thought I would watch Arrietty, being a relaxing and beautiful watch. The stand out for this movie, along with every SG movie is the art style and the music. It is incredibly distinctive, and stunning. And whilst this film was made in 2010, the art style creates a sense of nostalgia and comfort that modern Disney does not succeed at. SG films create a place of happiness and warmth because you are taken back to a time when drawn animation, was drawn. Arrietty is not my favourite story or plot, and I don't think that it is the strongest SG film, however, it is unbelievably beautiful and a great Sunday watch.
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone - 4.5 ⭐️

Nostalgia and a feeling of complete comfort are what springs to mind when I watch Harry Potter and the first one holds a very special little place in my heart. I was 2 years old when the first movie came out, and whilst I (obviously) didn’t watch it back then, the Harry Potter movies have always been a constant in my life. These are movies that I have watched with family at Christmas, and films I have introduced friends to. These are films that have won me rounds on pub quizzes and films that gave me the ability to believe in magic.
The first time Hogwarts is shown will be a moment forever etched into my memory, and the music is so recognisable that it makes me feel giddy when I hear it. The Hogwarts letter, Hagrid bringing Harry the birthday cake and the introduction to the trio are all stand out moments, not forgetting how magical the first time seeing Diagon Alley is. The whole of the Olivanders wand choosing scene is one of the purest forms of joy and encapsulates the joys of magic that has ever been captured on screen before.
The first movie has left us with quotes that we will be saying for lifetimes: It's LeviOsa, not LevioSAR, TROLL IN THE DUNGEON! Give it back Malfoy, or I will knock you off your broom.
Oh and don’t forget, no post on Sunday’s!
The first movie is a phenomenal one, and somehow they keep getting better and better.
